Coping with Corona

Mental health problems have significantly increased since the outbreak of the COVID-19. Anxiety, Depression, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder are some of the most common mental illnesses people in society are struggling with. Although there has been talk about the need for more mental health aid, it is also important to discuss inherent resources in the community. The most important coping resource is support. We need the support of our family, friends, neighbors, and our community to help weather the storm of this global epidemic. There is a famous quote by Martin Luther King Jr., “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now”. Everyone comes from different kinds of backgrounds, classes, groups, families, etc., and have different types of issues. There is one thing that unites us all–our common humanity. There are issues more universal and common besides our differences. I have heard another variation on this quote, “We may be in different ships, but we’re facing the same storm”. Yup, we’re all in this together.
